The Lipiflow Thermal Pulsation System, or Lipiflow for short, is a specialized in-office treatment for Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD). Do you have excessive watering, gritty, burning, or dry eyes? Keep reading to learn how this treatment could help provide relief!

What is Meibomian Gland Dysfunction?

The meibomian glands are oil glands located in our upper and lower eyelids. Each time we blink, the glands express creating the oil layer of our tear film. The oil layer’s job is to prevent our tears from evaporating too quickly. When the glands do not express good quality or not enough oil, our eyes may excessively water or feel dry, gritty, and sore. Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD) is this improper function of the glands.

Dry eye is a chronic and multifactorial condition. The most common cause is MGD. There are many treatments available at home and in-office to help manage dry eye symptoms. One of these treatments is Lipiflow!

How does Lipiflow Help?

Lipiflow is a one-time treatment that provides benefit for people with mild to moderate dry eye. The treatment takes 12 minutes.  A Lipiflow treatment is enjoyable as it feels like a warm massage. The applicators are inserted underneath your eyelids and sit comfortably. These applicators will safely perform thermal pulsations to remove obstructions from the meibomian glands. People will have noticeable results after one treatment.
